Governor Rick Perry

Don’t Mess With Texas

Source: This piece was originally posted at The New Democrat

Paul Begala makes a god point that Governor Rick Perry could call up the Texas National Guard himself and then the Federal Government would reimburse him. Unless the Tea Party is able to prevent that funding in the House by not voting for it. Or their allies in the Senate are able to block it and prevent it from coming up for a vote. I would hope that wouldn’t happen, but the Tea Party mindset doesn’t seem to want to allow the Federal Government to do anything that requires more money.

As far as the Southern border crisis. Well this is one of the reasons why Democrats and responsible Republicans in Congress want to pass immigration reform to prevent these crisis’s from happening in the future. The Democratic Senate passed a bipartisan bill last year and are still waiting on the Republican Leadership in the House to do anything as it relates to immigration. And if that is not good enough for Governor Perry, well again he can all up the Texas National Guard to help deal with the crisis.

You would think people who call themselves conservatives (and I say that because it is debatable whether these people are conservatives), but to finish this point, you would think these so-called conservatives who are opposed to public assistance or even the minimum wage would be in favor of raising it modestly, because it would mean these workers would have more income to pay their own bills and as a result need less in public assistance.

I actually agree with Republicans here when it comes to the debt ceiling that we should pay for the increase in it. But House Republicans are going to have to compromise again on it like they did in 2011. To get anything done and I agree with them here because our debt is too high and we simply can’t keep pushing it off. Just because economic growth is so low and unemployment is relatively still high. That our fiscal problems are going to have to be addressed sooner rather than later while we still can control our own fiscal policy. Rather than having to make drastic policies to avoid even worst things from happening in the future. You pay for the debt ceiling increase something we did in the 1990s and 1980s in a responsible way. You are telling Wall Street and world markets that America is serious about its economy and fiscal situation. And we are going to do what we need to do to get it under control and finally fix these problems.

So the compromise between the White House and Democratic Senate with House Republicans. On funding the Federal Government and raising the debt ceiling. Is that House Republicans do not get a defunding of the Affordable Care Act. The debt ceiling is raised in a strategic way where everyone that can afford to get cut that doesn’t hurt the economy. Gets cut not across the board but everywhere in the federal budget where we can afford to and should save. Tax, entitlement and defense policy reform great places to start along with agriculture. Everybody gives a lot and gets a lot and both sided can move on to other issues.

▶ CNN’s Crossfire: U.S. Senators Bernie Sanders & Lindsey Graham: On ObamaCare & Will The Federal Government Shutdown – YouTube.

Republicans would have credibility on healthcare meaning the Affordable Care Act or ObamaCare. If they had their own healthcare reform plan to reform a healthcare system that they admitted like Newt Gingrich. Needed to be reformed before the ACA was passed by Congress in 2010. Instead what they are essentially saying is that we should repeal the ACA and go back to the status-quo. When it came to healthcare a system that most of the country including the Republican Party said didn’t work very well. With people being denied health insurance because they needed it or had a pre-existing-condition. Or run up healthcare bills pass a certain cap even if they were still able to pay for their health insurance. Or being forced to pay for others healthcare because people could get their own healthcare at the. Emergency room even if it wasn’t an emergency which would be free for them but where anyone else with. Health insurance has to pay for someone else’s healthcare because they aren’t responsible enough to. Pay for their own health insurance.

Cornell West is certainly not a Neoliberal but a dedicated Leftist and even a Democratic-Socialist. Whose probably further to the left of Senator Bernie Sanders whose the only official Socialist in the United States Congress. And Bill Kristol I believe you could easily label him as a Neoconservative in his ideological thinking. But more of an establishment Republican in the sense that he doesn’t expect national Republicans to think exactly like. Him and perhaps more of an inclusive Republican.

My main issue with Professor West is that when he talks about Neoliberalism. He’s actually talking about Liberalism because he believes that anyone on the Left. Should essentially be a Socialist whose against privatization, private schools, big national banks. Private healthcare and health insurance that government needs to be running all of these. Social services for the people and that anyone on the Left who isn’t against private business and. Private corporations and isn’t as far to the Left as he is a Democratic-Socialist. Which is very hard to get to the Left of and still be a Democrat. That you are weak and not a true Leftist when the fact is Liberalism is about protecting people’s freedom. And individual rights, not trying to run their lives for them and for people to be able to run their own. Life and not be dependent on government for everything, they need a certain amount of economic as well as personal freedom to make that happen for themselves.

Whether or not gun control is ever passed in Congress again or not and seriously that is a big if even with a united Democratic Congress. That won’t be the golden solution or magic bullet to reducing gun violence in America to a more acceptable level. Whatever that level is, unless it comes with serious mental healthcare again where mental healthcare is available. To anyone who needs it in America and you don’t have mentally unstable people on the streets. Who have access to firearms in America whether it is legal for them to have them or not. Having said that we do need what I call common sense gun control in America that targets criminals. And mentally unhealthy people and says these people can not have legal or illegal firearms in America. And we need real enforcement in America and that means releasing mental health records to. Institutions and making them public so we know when a criminal or a mentally unstable person is. Trying to purchase a firearm and can stop them right there from doing it.

Negotiator In Chief?

▶ "We've Also Seen An Islamic Rebel Eating The Heart Of A Soldier!" CNN Crossfire: The Strength of The Assad Regime in Syria – YouTube.

The fact is that without the serious threat of military force in Syria against the Assad Regime. Russia and Syria aren’t talking about negotiating and giving up the Syrian chemical weapons. That Russia and Syria took that threat serious enough to actually do something about it and not play chicken. Which is why now the Obama Administration is now listening to them and a real peaceful resolution may emerge but I wouldn’t keep my fingers crossed. Because President Bashar Al-Assad may just be trying to stall and buy more time.
